The challenge

Vattenfall is investing 300 billion SEK in Sweden’s largest new nuclear plant in decades, bringing together internal teams, suppliers and partners under strict regulatory oversight.

To deliver on ambitious timelines and safety requirements, the organisation needed robust agile processes and a project organisation capable of modern, cross‑functional delivery in a high‑stakes, highly regulated environment.

What we did

Canoe designed an agile project framework tailored specifically to heavy industry and nuclear regulation, rather than importing a generic model.
We developed an organisational structure that supports multi stakeholder collaboration, clarifying roles, decision paths and routines across Vattenfall and external partners, and designed and user-tested a digital decision-support tool

Our team created competency programmes for leaders and staff,, and worked embedded with the project organisation.

Impact

  • Scalable agile framework for one of Europe’s largest industrial projects.
  • Staff trained in new ways of working.
  • Framework enabling coordination across multiple companies and regulatory requirements.

Why Canoe

Vattenfall needed a partner with proven experience scaling agile methods in heavy industry. Not consultants who only understand software or startups. Canoe combined deep knowledge of complex industrial projects, organisational design and practical agile delivery to create ways of working that fit nuclear grade complexity and regulatory demands.
