Introducing the Canoe CORE Team Canvas
Nick Merrigan

Strong teams don't just happen. They're built, deliberately, through clarity and shared understanding.
That's why we built the CORE Team Canvas.
Our new Miro template is now live in the Miroverse, free for any team to use. It's designed to help teams answer the questions that actually matter: who are we, what are we here to do, and how will we work together to get there?
Why we built it
Every team we've ever worked with, regardless of sector, size, or ambition, has at some point struggled with the same underlying problem. Not a lack of talent or effort, but a lack of alignment on the fundamentals.
People carry different assumptions about what success looks like, who owns what, and what the team actually values. Those gaps don't disappear. They grow, quietly, until they surface in the wrong moment.
The CORE Canvas gives teams a structured way to surface and close those gaps before they become problems. It's built from years of facilitation experience at Canoe and elsewhere, working with real teams facing real challenges across a wide range of industries.
How it works
CORE stands for the four dimensions the canvas explores: Culture, Objectives, Roles, and Execution. Each section prompts honest reflection and active discussion. It's collaborative, time-boxed, and designed to produce tangible outputs, not just interesting conversation.
Whether you're forming a new team, onboarding new members, or realigning an existing team that's drifted, the CORE Canvas gives you a practical structure to work from.
